With over 30 years of service to the state of North Carolina, James D. "Butch" Williams has built a legal practice and a Sports Representation Firm that has thrived at the highest level. Mr. Williams received his B.S. in Political Science from North Carolina Central University in 1976 and his JD from the same institution in 1979. Butch is a member of the Durham County, North Carolina, and American Bar Associations; the North Carolina Academy of Trial Lawyers; the North Carolina Association of Black Lawyers; the 14th Judicial District Bar; the Sports Lawyers Association; the Black Entertainment and Sports Lawyers Association; the American Inns of Court; and the National Football and Basketball Players Associations. In addition to these accolades, Mr. Williams has served on the Sports and Entertainment Board of the North Carolina Bar Association.
Since 1990, Mr. Williams has taught Sports Law and Trial Practice as an Adjunct Professor at his alma mater. In addition to his teaching services at NCCU, Mr. Williams has extended his understanding of Sports Law to neighboring Universities within the state and region as a visiting professor: Duke University, UNC-Chapel Hill, University of South Carolina, and North Carolina State University, amongst others.
Since his first client in 1987, Mr. Williams has built a practice that is predicated upon successful principles that maximize the relationship between the player and agent. Representing a client base with 17 NFL Pro Bowl invitations and two top-ten draft picks in the NFL and NBA, Butch works tirelessly to maximize the marketability as well as the image of all his clients, ensuring that they are secure in their playing roles in addition to their financial investments.
